Join us in 4 to 5 day adventure journey to the small Native American village of Supai, Arizona, which is nestled 8 miles down inside the Grand Canyon. This location along Havasupai Creek boasts of waterfalls ranging from 65 feet to 210 feet and is where you will find the crystal clear turquoise waters of Havasu Falls. This adventure trek is scheduled every two years and is only accessible from Route 66. PENNSYLVANIA HIGHWAYS - As many of you know, Pennsylvania's highways are again the worst in the country after relinquishing that title to Arkansas for six years. The latest survey from Overdrive magazine, who bestowed the Commonwealth with that title from 1990 to 1998, ranks Pennsylvania as again having the worst. However, the Keystone State also came in second under "Most Improved." This site will delve into the histories of the highways that help Pennsylvania earn the title of "Worst Roads" or "Second Most Improved" depending on your take.

TUCUMCARI, NEW MEXICO - THE HEART OF ROUTE 66 - Tucumcari Tonite! Nestled on old Route 66, is the gateway to New Mexico. Once known as the “Six Shooter Siding” a tent city for the railroad. Beginning in 1901 we have become a thriving community with a growing need for further development, offering wonderful community spirit, and opportunities for business growth.

GALLUP, NEW MEXICO - Gallup was founded as a railhead for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad in 1881 and quickly became a trade center and supplier of coal to keep the railroad running. Following the railroad came famous Route 66 and the ever curious tourist. Gallup is best enjoyed on foot in the 12-block downtown area bordered by Route 66/Main Street, Hill Avenue, Fourth Street and First Street. The greatest concentration of interesting turn-of-the-century architecture, as well as most of the downtown trading posts and galleries that are located here, especially along Route 66 and Coal Avenue located one block south.

FLORIDA AUTO TRAILS - This website is focused on the named Trails of Florida, based heavily on a 1925 Rand McNally Map of Florida. The routes are shown along the major highways (US and Florida state routes) that replaced them in function, and directly in many cases.

HIGHWAY 90 -  U.S. Highway 90 was at one time the primary road for those traveling east-west across the lower southeast United States. Begun in 1926, Highway 90 spans from Jacksonville, FL to Van Horn, TX, about 1600 miles. As part of the original Old Spanish Trail, much of HWY 90 has a rich cultural heritage.

HISTORIC COLUMBIA RIVER HIGHWAY - The Columbia River Highway, later renamed the Historic Columbia River Highway (HRCH), was a technical and civic achievement of its time, successfully marrying ambitious engineering with sensitive treatment of the surrounding magnificent landscape. The Historic Columbia River Highway has gained national significance because it represents one of the earlier applications of cliff-face road building utilizing modern highway construction technologies. It is also the oldest scenic highway in the United States.

PIKES PEAK - OCEAN TO OCEAN HIGHWAY - The Pikes Peak Ocean-to-Ocean Highway spanned the continent from New York City to Los Angeles in a time when paved roads were rare and traveling by car for more than 10 miles was an adventure. This site is dedicated to this obscure but not all forgotten historic highway.

HISTORIC CALIFORNIA HIGHWAYS - The two lane roads stretches out to the horizon littered with abandoned buildings. In the distance the Interstate highway is visible, the epitome of modern road building. The historic US highways of California have the same magic that Route 66 has, although much of theirs is still waiting to be rediscovered. COLORADO HIGHWAYS: HISTORIC MOTOR TRAILS - Prior to the establishment of the US Highway numbering system, the country was criss-crossed by named motor trails. These trails were usually established and signed by road booster groups and other commerce groups, not the government. They were usually marked by multi-colored rectangular signs on utility poles at intervals. At this site you will find a listing of these marked motor trails in Colorado, as they existed in 1923.

101 CAFE - The 101 Cafe began its life as a small 20-seat diner in 1928, opened by the Ekegren family. It was just the small dining room where the counters are now. As today, the restaurant was noted for its breakfast, which is still served all day. The Cafe was named for the old highway which it fronted Highway 101. HISTORY OF HOTEL NEVADA - Along historic U.S. Route 50, formerly an alignment of the 1913 Lincoln Highway route, in Ely, Nevada, you will find the historic Hotel Nevada. The hotel was completed in 1929 and it was not only the tallest building in Nevada due to its six full stories, but it was also the first
fire-proof building built in Nevada. The hotel also had the largest mural painting in Nevada on the outside of the building.

NOB HILL - HIGHLAND DISTRICT - ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO -  Central Avenue, Nob Hill - Highland's main street, has a split personality. It is Albuquerque's original "Main Street," like Main Streets all across the country, but its other personality is Route 66, the great Mother Road which carried countless Americans westward to California during the Great Depression. Visit this site to take a virtual walking tour through this historic district.
